Civix Planners and Engineers recently obtained Resource Consent approval from Queenstown Lakes District Council for a new apartment building designed by OZAC Architects Limited. The building includes 24 residential accommodation units, with high-end communal facilities such as a spa and roof terrace, with stunning views to Lake Wakatipu. Consent was obtained for 2.4m of additional height to accommodate the stepped levels of the building.

The steep site in central Queenstown posed challenges with the design of earthworks, as well as site servicing, with the nearest stormwater connection sitting uphill from the development. Extensive discussions with neighbouring property owners were also required to obtain approval for service connections through private property. Working with the Council’s Property and Infrastructure team, we were able to develop a bespoke servicing solution.

The timing of the project meant that consent was required across both the legacy QLDC District Plan and within the context of various Proposed District Plan stages, which meant weighing up both old and new directives for the area.

Ultimately, a high-quality outcome was achieved, and future residents will be able to enjoy this exciting location.
